Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What is Juneteenth and why is it celebrated?

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865—the day Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and ensure the freedom of enslaved people, more than two years after it was issued. It celebrates Black liberation, resilience, and cultural legacy. In 2021, Juneteenth was officially recognized as a federal holiday in the United States.

 

When and where is the 2025 FoCo Juneteenth Celebration taking place?
The event takes place June 20–21, 2025, at Foothills Mall in Fort Collins, Colorado, and features live music, wellness programming, youth activities, food trucks, and a BIPOC Vendor Market.

 

Who organizes FoCo Juneteenth?
The event is hosted by the NoCo Black Professionals Network and led by community volunteers and partners committed to celebrating Black culture and legacy in Northern Colorado.

 

Is the event free and open to the public?
Yes, the celebration is free and welcomes individuals and families of all backgrounds.
